December Hazak Program

The best of Jewish Humor

December Hazak Program picture

Charlie Bernhaut is a native of the Weequahic section of Newark, NJ. He holds a BA and LLB from Rutgers. In 1965 he developed a hobby for collecting old phonographs, which led to his love of Jewish music.
Passionate about Jewish Music, he has volunteered sharing his large collection of Jewish Recordings since 1977 – these 44 years have passed by so quickly. He recently gave over 10,000 albums of Jewish music to the Israeli Sound Archives in Jerusalem.
For the past twelve years Charlie has been broadcasting a weekly two-hour internet program (charliebernhaut.com). Much of the focus is on cantorial music.

Another hobby of Charlie’s is collecting comedy recordings. For the past 35 years he has been presenting “The Best of Jewish Comedy” featuring recordings of Jewish comedians such as Myron Cohen, Mickey Katz, Mal Z. Lawrence, Henny Youngman, and Betty Walker. The comedy presentation has been part of a four-session course that Charlie taught at NYU – also featuring sessions on ‘chazzonus’, Yiddish, and Israeli music.
Come out for some light afternoon laughter along with our presenter.
This program is supported by a generous grant from the Hirschhorn Foundation.
